NAbSA Dialogues — Gender Perspectives in Nature-Based Solutions

ONLINE

June 25, 2024

About

Incorporating gender perspectives into nature-based solutions (NbS) ensures that the diverse needs and knowledge of all community members are considered, leading to more equitable and effective outcomes. Women often possess unique environmental knowledge and play vital roles in natural resource management, yet they frequently face barriers to participation in decision-making processes. By integrating gender perspectives, NbS can harness the strengths and insights of people of different genders, fostering inclusive strategies that enhance resilience, sustainability, and community well-being while addressing social inequalities.

Jackie Siles, IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature), senior gender expert, moderated a panel discussion, highlighting the importance of gender inclusivity in NbS projects, with panelists from Conservation and Sustainable Management of Coastal and Marine Ecosystems (COSME), Regenerative Seascapes for People, Climate, and Nature (ReSea), Feminist Climate Action in West Africa (ACF-AO) and Nature-Based Climate Adaptation in the Guinean Forest of West Africa. Each panelist shared how they have addressed gender inclusivity within their projects across sub-Saharan Africa, as well as their learnings and on-the-ground experiences.

This event is part of the NAbSA Dialogues series. On the last Tuesday of every month, join enriching discussions highlighting impactful NbS for climate adaptation. Discover the successes of urban and coastal ecosystems, innovative financing strategies, and the strength of community sharing within Partnering for Climate (P4C) projects and beyond.
