NAbSA Dialogues — Green Infrastructure for Climate Resilience
ONLINE
September 5, 2024
About
Green infrastructure and nature-based solutions (NbS) can help better prepare urban communities for the impacts of climate change. NbS help improve urban resilience by integrating green spaces and natural systems into city planning, reducing flood risks, improving air quality, and enhancing biodiversity. These solutions help cities adapt to climate change, manage extreme weather, and provide healthier living environments.
This session highlighted how the P4C project SUNCASA (“Scaling Urban Nature-based Solutions for Climate Adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa”), and its partners utilize NbS to enhance resilience, gender equality, social inclusion, and biodiversity protection in urban communities in Dire Dawa (Ethiopia), Kigali (Rwanda), and Johannesburg (South Africa). It welcomed a panel discussion, featuring speakers from the SUNCASA partner organizations and governments, as well as speakers from IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature)’s Urban Team, to discuss their experiences with NbS in urban contexts and how NbS can address water resource and watershed management, ensuring equitable use and access for communities.
This event is part of the NAbSA Dialogues series. On the last Tuesday of every month, join enriching discussions highlighting impactful NbS for climate adaptation. Discover the successes of urban and coastal ecosystems, innovative financing strategies, and the strength of community sharing within Partnering for Climate (P4C) projects and beyond.
